Sweating is normal. Sweating that soaks through shirts, shows up in cool rooms, or keeps you changing clothes mid-day is a different problem — and clinical-strength antiperspirant is not always enough for it.

Here is the short version of what actually helps, and when it is time to talk to a physician.

## 1. Start with the basics, honestly

Antiperspirants work by temporarily blocking sweat glands. The clinical-strength versions are stronger than regular ones, and applying them at night, to dry skin, gives them the best chance to work. If you have not tried that properly, it is worth a few weeks.

What they cannot do is change how much your glands are signalled to sweat. If you are already using a clinical-strength product correctly and still sweating through it regularly, that is useful information — not a failure on your part. It suggests the next step is medical, not a stronger product off the shelf.

## 2. What a physician can offer that a product can't

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a recognised medical condition, and underarm sweating is one of its most common forms. A consultation starts by checking that nothing else needs attention first — some medicines and medical conditions can increase sweating, and those are worth ruling out before treating the sweating itself.

For underarm hyperhidrosis, a physician-led option at Ciel is neurotoxin treatment: small injections into the underarm skin that temporarily block the nerve signals telling sweat glands to activate. It is the same family of treatment used for facial lines, applied here for a different purpose. Whether it suits you, and what a realistic plan looks like, is decided at consultation — not from a description online.

Other options exist in medicine more broadly, including prescription topical treatments and, for some people, referral for specialist procedures. A good consultation will tell you honestly if a simpler option fits you better, or if you should be assessed elsewhere first.

## 3. When to book a consultation

Consider it if sweating regularly interferes with work, clothing, confidence, or daily comfort despite proper antiperspirant use — or if you are unsure whether your sweating is just heavy sweating or something worth evaluating. You do not need to prove it is "bad enough." If it bothers you consistently, that is enough reason to ask.

Bring a note of what you have tried, for how long, and any medicines you take. That short history makes the consultation far more useful than a general description of sweating.

## Frequently asked questions

Is excessive sweating a real medical issue, or just heavy sweating?

It can be either. Heavy sweating alone is common; hyperhidrosis is sweating that is excessive for the situation and interferes with daily life. A consultation is how the two are separated.

Does neurotoxin for sweating work the same way as for wrinkles?

It uses the same type of product, but the target is different: sweat glands rather than facial muscles. The plan, areas, and follow-up are specific to sweating and are set at consultation.

How long does it last?

Results are temporary and vary by person. No honest practice can promise a set duration for you before an assessment, and anyone who does should be asked what that promise is based on.

Is it painful?

Most people describe brief discomfort from small injections. Your clinician will explain what to expect for your plan specifically.

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on the plan agreed at consultation, so it is quoted after assessment, not before. No price is quoted in this post for that reason.
